Feeling robbed

One Nation Moving was a terrible experience. I moved 5 times during the last 20 years, therefore this was not my first experience moving, but it was the first time I feel robbed. Based on my previous moving experiences, I was expecting to pay around 20-30% more than the estimate from the moving company; but this time I ended paying 125% more than the estimate; the amount went from $ 1470 to 3,300; and I had to ask them to stop wrapping some pieces of furniture, I signed a paper assuming the responsibility if something happened to that furniture; I packed all the boxes otherwise the bill could easily end over 4,000. I hired them just for moving the boxes and the furniture.

I had read some comments about increased costs and I talked to Edva saying that I'd not want to have surprises; she assured me that just few clients complained. I also had a video call with her, so, she saw exactly what furniture I needed to move.

I didn't count that the trick of the scam is in the supplies. Forget about the size of the tape you can buy in home depot, One Nation Moving uses tiny ridiculous size of tape and charge 5 dollars for each; they said they used 50 of those rolls; so, immediately they took 250 dollars from my pocket. They wrap everything with plastic, the same one you can buy for 25 dollars a roll; well these movers use one roll to wrap multiple item, and they charge 25 dollars for each; so, plastic film wrapping of your dining table and 4 chairs would be 125 dollars.

They also put cardboard to protect the furniture, they use cardboard smaller than the 2-dollar packing box you buy in Home Depot, and they charge 20 dollars a piece!!!!

Summary: my experience with One Nation Moving was HORRIBLE!!! It's almost a week after we moved and I'm still extremely upset with this company; the worst experience ever.

I Am Furious.

I got ripped off. The quote was 471.00. Ended up paying a staggering 922.00. I was told up front that it would be extra for materials such as moving pads ($7 each), which most moving companies don't charge for. And TAPE: $6 per roll. The billing form they use does not itemize the materials the movers use, so the head mover guy ("David") put in a whopping $160. My things were well-packed, all boxed up, except for the couch, dresser, two bookcases, and several other large items. When I called to ask about the charges, the customer service woman ("Edva") was less than friendly now that she'd pocketed my money. She said that the $160 wasn't that much compared to most customers' packing material charges. Well, I asked her to read off the materials that went into the $160. Among them were a picture box for 19.99, which I certainly never saw, asked for, or agreed to, and a box ceiling, whatever that is, for $23. I said OK, whatever, but I never saw these things. (I also never asked for the couch to be shrink wrapped or for them to use and tape moving pads to a number of my large items.)  She said that they trusted David, the head mover's, word. Ha. Well, I moved into a house that has two very narrow staircases, which a lot of my furniture wouldn't fit up. Two things I didn't want to part with, my bookcase and dresser, David said could be dis-assembled and re-assembled, but "it's going to cost you." How much more, I asked. $120, he said. I asked it it would only be another $120, no hidden charges, nothing else? He said yes. And guess what. When it came time to settle, he'd added in the extra time it took to take apart and put back together the dresser and bookcase (which I may add, come from Target - they're not antiques that are complicated to assemble. I put together both myself) AND wanted $120 for himself in cash in addition to that. He stated that the money for the extra time would all go to the company, none for him. I didn't have $120 in cash, so I took down his full name and address and said I'd send him a check when I got paid next. After the movers left, I found that the dresser and bookcase were not put back together correctly. 2 of the 5 dresser drawers are unusable, and you can see how the bottom is falling apart. Same with the bookcase. I called the company to say I didn't think I should have to pay for service I didn't get (having my things assembled so that they can work as they're intended to), and they said that they would have one of their men come out and correctly assemble my dresser and bookcase. Edva also said that their movers are not supposed to solicit money above and beyond their wage and any tips they get, and seemed upset that David would do this. (She told me I put a damper on her day for letting her know that he did, too, which is completely unprofessional.) She said that she'd talk to the company manager and "get David's side of the story" and call me back by the next day at the latest. Didn't hear back. A week went by. I sent one more email to the company, saying I wanted to speak with the owner, that I was extremely disappointed in their services, and couldn't believe no one had gotten back to me in a week's time. I let them know that if I didn't hear back from them in 24 hours, I'd take steps. I got an email back from Edva saying "we will send someone to your house to fix the furniture tonight." Are you serious? That's their idea of responding? And I couldn't be at the house that night; I had plans with an old friend who was in town from New York. I was about to reply when David called me and said he'd be at my house in an hour and a half. I told him I couldn't do that and that the general practice is to make appointments for these kinds of things. And I'm not sure I want him and his ineptitude and scamming around me again anyway. It's kind of amazing to me that he still has a job when he violated company policy in soliciting $120 from me. (I'm sure he lied about it; interestingly, though, I read off the address he gave me to send the check to to Edva, who confirmed that that is in fact his address.) Anyway - a bunch of unprofessional, dishonest cheats and lots of hidden charges. I can only hope that others will see this and not use this awful company.    .

Managements unfair pricing.

This started as a pleasant experience and turned costly. We had a move for myself and a separate move for my daughter and granddaughter. I thought one pickup , 2 deliveries. Alan, who did the quote suggested splitting it into 2 deliveries on separate days. I told him I was trying to avoid the one hour travel time minimum at $169.00. He said they would eliminate one of the travel charges. Ok, great. They quoted me $516 on mine which is their minimum 3hr charge. Buried in the fine print is an 8% fuel surcharge! That's 8% of the total charges. My move went exactly as planned in exactly 3 hrs, great! My daughter's move, not so well. They couldn't fit everything into the truck so had to make a second trip. This is when it got ugly. Alan, who is apparently some kind of manager, is the person who came to my house and did an extensive inventory of all items and provided the quote. I would have expected more accuracy. When I called him to raise the issue of a second trip he immediately started making excuses and told me he told me he didn't think it would fit. That was an outright lie. I told him I didn't think we should have to pay any additional travel fees. He got very indignant and rude. I was unable to persuade him to make any changes to the bill. The move cost 50% more than quoted. The moving crew themselves were great. They were hard working and courteous. But it looked like a different company. On Time Moving or something like that. It was the quoting inaccurately and unprofessionalism of Alan that forced me to write this review.

Wish I read the reviews before hireing One Nation.

This was the worst experience of my life.  My husband and I hired a moving company for a piece of mind and we got a nightmare.  I am still shaken.  Not only are they professional scammers, but they are also callous.  After 10 hours and a bill of almost $2,000 for a job quoted for four hours for a total of $471.00, I was abandoned at 11pm with a sofa in the lobby of my apartment complex, because I refused to pay another $500, on top of what I was already paying, to get my sofa up the stairs, because it would not fit into the elevator.  After pleading with my apartment complex, they allowed us to leave the sofa in the hallway overnight.  My husband and his friends moved the sofa the next morning.  It took them 20 minutes.
I spoke with Edva this morning who stated that it was not her job to get elevator and furniture dimensions ahead of time, and that I was given a quote on the spot, so why was I so upset?  I was given the quote at 10pm when no other options were available.  This is extortion.  Luckily, I have a husband who has friends that came the next day.  Many others would not be as fortunate and would be stuck paying the additional $500 on top of a bill that was already three times more than they ever expected to pay.  So yes, I am upset, very upset, and I wish I would have used my friends for this move and never paid for a moving company.  I would have saved a lot of time, stress, and money.  Who ever heard of it taking ten hours to move a one bedroom apartment of stuff??       .

Great moving experience.

I moved this past weekend with one nation dc movers and they were professional, fair, and communicated very well throughout the entire process. Edva, the woman I booked the move with was very informative (told me about all charges before the move) and super friendly! I made sure I understood what I was going to be paying for, which did not include any hidden fees. the workmen were efficient and very polite as well as the supervisor (david). I recommend one nation dc movers to all my friends and family!! very pleased.
